Last week, Year 6 had the pleasure of meeting and learning from an award winning Australian Author, Deborah Abela.
Deborah has written 30 internationally published and awarded books, including the Max Remy series, and her climate change trilogy, Grimsdon, New City and Final Storm. Her latest books are The Kindness Project, a verse novel about how even the smallest act of kindness can change the world, and her read aloud rhyming book, No More Room in the Bed, enjoyed by young readers for its wacky characters, repetition and word play.
During their time with Deborah, Year 6 learnt about the three key ingredients of an effective narrative; well-developed characters, vivid setting description and a captivating problem. Students were given the opportunity to plan and write an orientation for a narrative and were given valuable feedback about their writing.
‘Year 6 were thankful for the time they spent with such a well-known and respected author. The knowledge and expertise that Deborah shared were a great inspiration for Year 6, who are looking forward to growing their narrative writing skills in Term 3.’ Mr Chris Harrison, Year 6 Homeroom Teacher.
