On Thursday, 21 August, 3:33 Art Projects and Young Curators from SGCS and Kingsgrove High School opened ‘Residence’, an exhibition of the artworks of award-winning artist, Peta Minnici, in The Chapel Gallery. We welcomed the Artist and Director of 3:33 Art Projects, Gaibrielle Germanos, the Young Curators and staff from Kingsgrove High School, along with SGCS Young Curators and their families, staff members and guests.
Peta’s artworks filled The Chapel Gallery and Atrium with a mesmerizing blend of colour, texture, shadow and shape. Each piece spoke to guests at a deep level, and many guests stood immersed in an artwork for some time. We are deeply grateful to Peta for sharing her art with our community.
Following refreshments in the Gallery, guests moved into the Atrium, where Mrs Villareal introduced Gaibrielle Germanos from 3:33 Art Projects. Peta was then invited to take part in a Q & A session with two students, James H representing SGCS and Zoe H from Kingsgrove High School. In response to the students’ insightful questions, she shared inspiring insights about her journey in art. Peta spoke of the struggle many artists face with self-doubt and encouraged the students to find authenticity in their art and to persevere with the creative process. She spoke of her love of glassware and the joy it brings, a reminder that when we behold beauty, we create beauty. The formalities were concluded by our Principal, Mr Honor.
We are thankful to 3:33 Art Projects for their Young Curators Program which provides students with a unique experience to work as a curatorial team to research, develop, select and stage an exhibition. The program empowers students to gain powerful insight and skill in the creative arts industry and enables them to display art at its best, with purity and impact.
The program has deepened my appreciation for the art world and showed me that curation is more than just displaying artworks. It’s a creative and complex process that involves thoughtful arrangement and purpose in order to impact an audience. Sarah M, Year 10, SGCS.
The Exhibition will be open in The Chapel Gallery until Friday 5 September 2025.
