National RoboCup Junior Championships

Our SGCS Robotics Club recently showcased exceptional talent at the National RoboCup Junior Championships in Canberra. Twenty-five students, accompanied by their parents, competed alongside RoboCup teams from across Australia in this highly competitive event. The competition featured four distinct events, each offering multiple skill levels to challenge participants.

SGCS fielded teams across six categories: Line Rescue – Riley Rover (beginner level), Line Rescue at intermediate and Open levels, Intermediate Maze, and Open OnStage. To advance to the next round, teams needed to secure first place in their Open event category, demonstrating the high calibre of competition.

Four of our students are the 2025 Australian Champions in Open Line Rescue. They have been working towards this goal since Year 5! Second place was also from SGCS. We have such a strong team of designers, builders, and coders.

The Australian Champion Open Line Rescue team ‘Wet Lettuce’ members are Year 11 students William D, Bain C, Toby M, and Landon A.

The second placed Open Line Rescue team ‘Cassette Tape’ members are Year 11 students Jesse M, Micaiah H, and Ethan C.

The Australian Champion Intermediate maze ‘Ethanol’ members are Ethan C and Bain C.

A mixed Year 7 & 8 group ‘Sunday Silence’ earned second place in the Secondary Line Rescue event. The members are Jude C, Felix H, Jake M, and Caleb O.

A Year 8 group ‘Domino’ earned third place in the Secondary Rescue Line event. The students are Ethan L, Zachary L, and Alfred H.

Two Year 4 students, Marcus L and Joel J, entered the competition for the first time. This is a huge achievement.

‘All twenty-five students were outstanding ambassadors for SGCS. They demonstrated exceptional teamwork and resilience, brainstorming together whenever technical challenges arose and supporting one another throughout the competition. Congratulations to our students who competed in RoboCup Junior Australia’s National Open Championships in Canberra over the school holidays. Well done to all of our students for their exemplary skills and attitudes, and a special shout out to our students who qualified to represent Australia at the International Robotics Competition.’
