Excitement was palpable last week as parents and friends gathered at Horizon Church in Sutherland for the annual Infants Christmas Concert. The students led us back in time to the very first Christmas allowing us to see the Christmas story through their eyes. With Year 2 as articulate and enthusiastic narrators, the Christmas story came to life in a fresh and exciting way.
The story took us back to Bethlehem with Kindergarten girls adorned as stars, shining brightly as they danced in their sparkling crowns and beautiful dresses, along with dazzling purple pompoms. The Kindergarten boys dominated the stage as the Wise Men, dignified and determined as they raced their camels to the rousing notes of the William Tell Overture. Year 2 boys unleashed their power as the brave and majestic Angel Army igniting awe and admiration. Year 1 boys portrayed the Shepherds, stylish and fun-loving with synchronized techno dance moves, and Year 1 girls were lovely sheep in their elegant white dresses, stylish black gloves and pink ears, dancing together with unity and precision.
As the narrator asked the audience to imagine the scene in heaven on the night of that first Christmas, the magnificent Angels from the Realms of Glory, played by the Year 2 girls, appeared with poise and majesty in their gorgeous sparkling white and gold gowns. As the song ‘Gloria in Excelsis Deo’ rang out, the stage was alight with joy and wonder.
The finale was breathtaking when the whole cast gathered on the stage around the manger with Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus, and sang of their joy at the birth of Jesus, reminding us that Jesus is our true source of joy and with Him all things are possible.
Thank you to Mrs Lean and her amazing team at Infants for bringing the concert together, the talented parents who assisted with the beautiful costumes and props, Mrs Cook who organized the narration videos, Mr Cheng for his technical skill, Ms Powys from Inspire Creative Arts, and Horizon Church. Last, but certainly not least, thank you to the children for their incredible performances and excellent behaviour.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)
