As part of the innovative Young Curators Program developed by 3:33 Art Projects, our students recently enjoyed a unique and inspiring excursion into the professional world of visual art. The program, designed to connect secondary students with leading Australian visual artists, gives students hands-on curatorial experience and opens doors to diverse opportunities within the creative industries.
The excursion began with a visit to the corporate offices of the law firm, Clayton Utz, to view their current art collection and to see how art enhances a workplace environment. From there, the group headed to Artbank, gaining access to a rare behind-the-scenes tour—an experience not usually available to the public. Students had the opportunity to explore Artbank’s extensive collection and learn how artworks are carefully conserved, stored, and loaned out across the country. They also gained insight into the many careers that support the art world, from curators and conservators to registrars, diplomatic art ambassadors and collection managers.
‘This eye-opening experience gave our Young Curators a deeper understanding of the art world and the many pathways available in the creative industries — while continuing to inspire them to think beyond the traditional gallery space’. Mrs Rachel Villareal, Creative Arts Teacher.
