Never be Late for a Parade

Last week we celebrated the opening of our latest exhibition in The Chapel Gallery. Never Be Late for a Parade, features the works of Shaun Tan, one of Australia’s most celebrated authors, illustrators, and filmmakers both nationally and overseas.

The exhibition features 22 prints, original paintings, sculptures, along with resources from The Lost Thing: Book to Film project.

We were delighted to welcome Ms Maria Savvidis, Coordinator, Manuscript Collections, Collection Acquisition and Curation, State Library of New South Wales to present the Opening Address. Ms Savvidis is an ardent fan of Shaun Tan and worked with him to secure the original manuscripts of his book, Dog, for the permanent collection of the State Library of New South Wales. She gave a fascinating insight into Tan’s creative process and highlighted key aspects of the works on show.

Guests to the opening were also treated to a book reading by Mr James Honor, Principal, and after viewing the exhibition enjoyed refreshments in the Atrium Garden.
