Honouring Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Last Friday, our School held a Commemorative Tree Planting Ceremony in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee.

In February this year, Her Majesty The Queen, celebrated a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms, the Commonwealth and as Australia’s Head of State.  Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II was the first British monarch to reach this milestone. The Queen passed away on 8 September 2022.

As part of The Queen’s Jubilee Program, the Australian Government offered commemorative trees to schools, to be planted in her honour.

Mr Phillip Pain, SGCS HSIE Teacher and a keen gardener, successfully applied for our School to be part of The Queen’s Jubilee Program and created a beautiful garden along Woids Avenue.

Mr James Honor, Principal, addressed an audience of Year 6 SRC students, Year 6 parents, and Year 12 School Captains and Prefects, thanking the Australian Government for their generous contribution and stating, “It is our hope that when you pass by our School or enter this gate, that you will remember the legacy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.”

Mr Rodney Thompson, representative for the Honourable Mr David Coleman, Member for Banks, attended the Commemorative Tree Planting Ceremony and along with Mr James Honor, Principal, planted the tree with Year 6 Commonwealth Parliamentarian’s Award recipient, Imogen M.
