This week Middle School were treated to performances by the ‘Poetry In Action’ team. The interactive show utilised famous poems and introduced emerging poets, so that students could experience the brilliance of spoken word poetry within a performance narrative. The show was set under the guise of a ‘Eurovision-style’ Poetry competition and the cast spent the time trying to find the ‘right’ poem to fit Australia’s national identity. They explored classic Australian poems like ‘My Country’, protest poetry and poetry that explores the diversity of Australia’s population today. Ultimately, it was an exceptional extension of the work being done in classrooms this term and has given us some new creative ideas to experiment with in our own poetry.
