Our Year 6 students, in partnership with local primary schools, used their skill and imagination to create a vibrant in-centre art installation in Westfield Hurstville Shopping Centre. The collaborative art campaign celebrated 2024 NAIDOC Week which was held across the country from 7 to 14 July 2024. The acronym, NAIDOC, stands for the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. NAIDOC Week recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The NAIDOC installation was a little more technical than in previous years. The students’ artworks were digitally imposed to create a unique NAIDOC inspired display showcasing this year’s NAIDOC Theme – Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud. The NAIDOC Committee selected this theme to celebrate not only the survival but also the relentless spirit and enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Well done to all of our students for contributing to this important and thought provoking art installation.
