Hurstville Campus (Yr 6-8)
Our Middle School has been designed to meet the needs of our young adolescent learners and to nurture them so that they grow physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually (Luke 2:40). It is an environment where adolescence is valued and understood, and where learning experiences are developmentally appropriate and challenging.
Home Room Teachers craft learning environments, curriculum and instruction to help each learner make sense of themselves and their world, develop key skills and maximize their potential. They engineer learning opportunities that help students identify their strengths and work on their weaknesses, reinforcing student effort and building confidence.
Students and teachers are known and, together with parents, form a learning community. We believe that all learning flows from a positive and safe relationship with teachers and peers and should be relevant and connected to real life contexts. Teachers share their personal stories as they build community and reinforce life-long learning.
A broad range of activities is available to enhance student learning and to nurture individual interests and talents. In addition to Band, Choir and Sports Teams, a number of clubs are offered such as Drama, Robotics, Science, Scrabble and Jump Rope. Extension for high ability students is offered in diverse areas such as philosophy, writing, archaeology, art and debating.
Our Middle School sets the foundation for success in future years by nurturing thinking and other ‘learning to learn’ skills. Students are challenged to reflect on their identity and are encouraged to pursue excellence in every area of life and learning, to achieve their potential and to make a difference in the world in which they live.
