Young Composer Hits the Right Note

The accolades keep coming for young musician Andrew D. (Year 7).

In 2021, he won the Composition Section for K-Year 6 at the Armidale Eisteddfod. Recently he returned to Armidale to win the Year 7-8 Composition Category and place second in the Open Composition Category. Not only did Andrew produce a podium finish in both categories he did so by presenting his own composition, The Lost (for violin and piano).

Renowned Australian concert pianist Mr John Martin accompanied Andrew for his performance and paid tribute to his Mother by presenting a piano solo piece, Funny Mummy!, in honour of her birthday.

Recently, Andrew received more good news, when he was selected as a finalist for the Fanfare Competition.

The Fanfare Competition is open to young people aged 12-21 years. Andrew composed a 30 second work, titled “Dream of Heaven (for Orchestra)” for the competition.

As a finalist, Andrew will see his composition performed by the Sydney Youth Orchestra at their concert event at the Conservatorium of Music on Sunday 19 September 2021.

Congratulation to Andrew and his family on these wonderful achievements.
