The theme for National Book Week was Reading is my Secret Power.
With this theme in mind, our SGCS Librarians called in one of the big names in children and young adult writing, Libby Gleeson, for a series of workshops for our Junior School students.
This multi-award winning author has written more than forty books and has two more on the way.
Libby’s presentation was wide-ranging and covered topics like the writing process, the role of publishers, cover designs and the way in which words translate differently in other languages. (Although one of our young students seemed heartbroken that she was unable to read Libby’s books in Greek). Our students sat enthralled, taking in every word.
An author reading their own work is always a special occasion, and judging by the smiles on our children’s faces, reading is indeed Libby Glesson’s not-so-secret power.
