Resilience Through Creativity

The Create Co-Op initiative aims to help teenage girls develop positive self-esteem through fun and interactive activities. Now in its ninth year at SGCS, the program shows no sign of slowing down with a new group of Year 7 students keen to participate.

Inspired by the Esteem Designz program, it explores identity and popular culture, and encourages students to tap in to their creativity. Participants create personal “memory pockets” — cards that detail happy memories, which they can then refer to in times of need, or when they feel sad.

Program co-ordinator and educator, Melissa Honor, says the program “empowers girls for life by equipping them with skills and insight into managing their emotions”.

This year Create Co-Op meets in the Pop-Up Library, which is part of the Water Tank Studios, a space that has been beautifully reimagined by our Library Team.
