Last Term, Middle School students launched an online fundraiser in support of OzHarvest.
OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, collecting quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivering it directly to more than 1300 charities supporting people in need across the country.
OzHarvest also run educational programs for students, teaching them how to eat healthy, waste less food and become change-makers in their local community.
Our students learnt about minimising food waste and protecting our environment through a series of short presentations in roll call over a period of one week. They were also invited to donate online. A Mufti Day celebrated the week-long fundraiser which raised more than $3300.
Mrs Roxanne Gray, Lead Teacher Student Support for Middle School said:
The students and staff really got onboard with supporting this initiative. The COVID-19 pandemic has made students aware, many for the first time, of what it is like to not be able to buy the food that you want. The OzHarvest educational resources helped students become more aware of wasting food and the impact it has on others and the environment.
They also loved the interactive live feed where they could see, before their very eyes, the growing number of donations.
Thank you to all our students and staff who donated to the OzHarvest fundraiser. Donations are still open, click here.
