Looking up to the stars in the night sky tends to produce an immediate sense of wonder and a quietness of soul. Our students had the opportunity this week, to lie back and look up when they attended a Planetarium.
The Planetarium, a dome theatre featuring 360° immersive 3D digital images was stationed at our Hurstville Campus for one day. Within this dome, our students were able to witness constellations in the southern skies and the progression of the sky, from dusk to dawn.
The students were introduced to Indigenous Australian astronomy through a documentary exploring the traditions and stories of the first people of Australia. This fascinating insight stirred the imagination of our students, raising many questions about the differences and similarities of the familiar European night-sky stories when compared to those of Indigenous Australia.
