Parliamentary Celebrations for Jump Rope

The extraordinary success of our Jump Rope Team at the 2021 IJRU Virtual World Championship Series was recognised this week at an Award Ceremony at the New South Wales Parliament House.

Mr Takashi Ogawa, Executive Vice President of the International Jump Rope Union (IJRU) and Tournament Director for Skipping Australia, commended the students for their resilience and perseverance in negotiating the “ups and downs” of the pandemic to successfully compete in the World Championships. He also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of Mrs Karen Binns, SGCS Jump Rope Coordinator, as well as Alumni and parent support in leading our students to success.

The Hon. Stuart Ayres MP, Minister for Sport, was also full of praise for the students for their commitment to the sport and the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart Program.  The Minister presented the medals and awards to students from St George Christian School and members of the Northbridge Knockout Club.

During the Ceremony, Dr Kathy Chapman, General Manager NSW/ACT Heart Foundation was presented with an Award by The Hon. Stuart Ayres MP, Minister for Sport, acknowledging the 40th Anniversary of the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart Program. SGCS has been involved in the program through their Jump Rope Demonstration Team since 1999.

After the Awards Ceremony, parents, families, and students enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea in the New South Wales Parliament House. It was a fitting celebration for our students, coaches, and their team of supporters. Our thanks to Mr Murray Norman, NSW/ACT Skipping Co-President for organising the event.

The Members of our Jump Rope Team for the World Championships include Benjamin Ewels, Leonidas Luichareonkit, Laura Madden, Christian Maskito, Matthew Maskito, Serena Maskito, Lyric McDougall, Connor Moylan, Rebekah Norman, Sarah Norman and Bella Rigby.
