Nature is a constant source of inspiration. Our Years 9 and 10 Visual Arts students and Year 10 Multimedia students found inspiration indeed when they journeyed to Cockatoo Island. The UNESCO world-heritage-listed island sits in the middle of Sydney Harbour and has a rich and varied history of convicts, shipping and industry.
After a week of grey skies, our students were blessed with a blue-skied day. Perfect weather for a day of creativity.
Both Visual Arts students and Multimedia students were tasked to capture the ephemeral history of the island. Multimedia students used cameras whilst the Visual Arts students draw elements of the landscape and built and documented ephemeral sculptures at the site.
Works by the Visual Arts and Multimedia students in Years 9, 10 and 11 will feature in The Fragility of Nature exhibition, on Thursday 23 November 2018, 6.00pm – 8.00pm at the SGCS Hall, Hurstville Campus.
