Year 1 students are learning how to use non-fiction books to discover new things. Using the dragonfly as a case study, the students consider a question that they would like answered. Each student shared their question with another student, who then framed it as a question for the class. This simple exercise invokes curiosity and teaches listening skills.
In the following weeks, students will learn how to answer these questions using information from within the Library. They will become familiar with content pages, indexes and glossaries as a means to navigate books. These foundational lessons in library literacy help equip our students with the necessary information skills for future learning.
