Wade Bonhomme, Year 6, recently represented SGCS and Christian Independent Schools when he travelled to the country music capital of Tamworth to compete in the New South Wales Primary School Sports Basketball Association Championships.
In February, Wade was selected by CSSA to trial for the CIS representative basketball team. He was successful in gaining selection and went on to compete with the CIS Team during the Championships.
Mr Rob Archer, SGCS Sports Teacher was thrilled that Wade secured a place saying:
A spot on the CIS Team is an outstanding achievement. This competition has a very high standard of play, as it is the best young basketball players from all around the state playing against each other.
Wade had a great time away at Tamworth competing. He played incredibly well, scoring lots of points for his team and his defence was outstanding. He represented St George Christian School well with his demeanour and sportsmanship.
The CIS team won their pool and were looking like favourites going into the semi- finals, but were defeated by Sydney South West. They went on to compete against Sydney South West again in the playoffs and this time took out the win to come 3rd overall.
A few words from Wade himself:
PSSA Basketball was something I’ll definitely remember for the rest of my life! After our big day of games we would all hang out after and go play bowling then have dinner as a team together. Then we would go back to the hotel and go to sleep. Then the next day I would have a whole heap of new games to play. I also created new friends on the team and also from other teams across NSW. Overall PSSA Basketball was really great!!! And I will never forget it!!!
Congratulations to Wade on such a successful Championships.
