From paddock to plate

Students in Years 7 and 8 are experiencing first-hand how food is grown with the creation of a kitchen-style garden at our Hurstville Campus.

Garden projects are part of the new mandatory Technologies syllabus introduced in 2019.

The focus of this course is based entirely on the Agriculture and Food Technologies content and includes topics such as food and fibre production, nutritional needs, sustainable production of food, sensory properties of foods and safe and ethical work practices.

Our students are growing herbs, tomatoes and other vegetables for use in their recipes. Later this term they will visit a city pocket garden to explore how sustainable living in possible in an urban environment.

Our thanks to our Year 10 students who created the garden as part of their work experience with our Property and Maintenance Team. We look forward to watching this project grow.
