Children can find bees both fascinating and fearsome due to their ability to produce honey and to sting. On Valentine’s Day our Year 1 students put any fears aside and learnt to appreciate these humble insects through our Super Pollinators workshop.
The incursion focused on the importance of bees to our world. Students learnt about the different types of bees, their ability to pollinate flowers and why bees are necessary to humans and the world in which we live. The children were able to view examples of preserved local insects before making their own bee hotel, a construction designed to encourage solitary bees to come into our gardens.
What a wonderful way to help sustain our bees.
