In early 2022, the North Coast region of New South Wales was devastated by rain and floodwaters. The Empire Vale Public School, located between Ballina and Wardell, was severely impacted by the floods. This co-educational school of 26 students is now operating out of a hall on the campus of another local school.
As part of the SGCS Beyond Ourselves initiative, Middle School students participated in a Book Drive to help rebuild the Empire Vale Public School Library. The students had the opportunity to either donate new or like new books from the NSW Premiers Reading Challenge Booklists.
Students dressed as their favourite book character with prizes for the: most authentic; most inventive; nostalgic; class effort; and highest number of books donated.
A special mention to the class of 7D who all dressed up as characters from the beloved Roald Dahl book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Our Library Team are now sorting through more than 1000 book donations to prepare them for delivery to Empire Vale Public School.
Thank you SGCS students and families for your generosity.
