Connecting with professional artists is a wonderful way to develop your own artistic practice. Our Year 9 Visual Arts students recently enjoyed an onsite, one day artist workshop with well renown artist Julianne Allcorn.
Julianne is a highly accomplished practising artist with works in many collections and has displayed in numerous group and solo exhibitions. She was awarded the ”Trustees Watercolour Prize” in the Wynne Prize 2020 and has been a finalist in the Gallipoli Art Prize several times.
Julianne revealed techniques for getting started with an idea and encouraged the students to free their thinking in order to allow their work to grow organically.
The students spent time learning about the seminal 9 by 5 Impressionist Exhibition which marked a turning point in Australian landscape painting. They then set to work on creating their own 9 by 5 art works inspired by Arthur Streeton’s painting, Purple Noon’s Transparent Might.
It was a rewarding day for both students and staff.
Our thanks to Julianne Allcorn for her generosity of spirit in sharing her expertise and artistic practice with us.
