Andrew D. (Year 6) continues to build on his reputation as a composer, winning the Composition Section for K-Year 6 at the recent Armidale Eisteddfod.
Andrew who is already an accomplished pianist and violinist, taught himself the art of composing music by exploring a music notation software program called Sibelius. He was soon composing music for the violin, piano and string orchestral music. In 2019, as a member of the Sydney Youth Orchestra, he was selected to present as a composer and violin soloist, to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music performing his own violin concerto composition.
His winning performance at the Armidale Eisteddfod secured him an invitation to become a member of the prestigious Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA).
The Armidale Eisteddfod is one of the few Eisteddfods to take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Composition Division was the only part of the Eisteddfod to go ahead as it was conducted via a Zoom meeting. Fifty-five composers from Armidale, Tamworth and Sydney entered the Eisteddfod.
