Achievement Unveiled

It was a glorious, blue-skied day to celebrate the official opening of our new Terrace Building. The Ceremony recognised the efforts of the many individuals and organisations who brought this project to fruition.

Representatives from NBRS Architecture, Lloyd Group, the Association of Independent Schools, Bradfield Accountants and NAB were in attendance.

The Hon. David Coleman MP, Member for Banks was invited to unveil the plaque, and represent the Australian Government who had partly funded the project under the Capital Grants Program.

In their address, Mr Honor and Minister Coleman both acknowledged the significance of a new building for the learning of students, but also emphasised the importance of what occurs within its walls: the care, community, and values.

Members of the SGCS Board, both past and present, who have worked tirelessly to oversee the largest construction project in the School’s history, were present at the Ceremony with Mr Michael Newman, SGCS Board Deputy Chair and Chairman of Finance and Audit Committee giving a stirring address.

After two years of restrictions on events and campus access, due to the pandemic, it was wonderful to invite parents back to School. The audience of our student leaders, from Kindergarten to Year 12, and their parents, enjoyed the proceedings, led by School Captain, Annabel Tyas and featuring presentations, prayer, and live music from our Saxophone Ensemble, SGCS Band and a Vocal Trio. The Australian National Anthem was beautifully performed by Melody Tambun (Year 10).

After the Ceremony and unveiling of the plaque, our guests enjoyed morning tea together in the warm sunshine on our Rooftop Terrace and Visual Arts Courtyard to the sound of our Saxophone Ensemble.

Thank you to all who attended the celebrations to mark this significant milestone.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
    his greatness no one can fathom.
 One generation commends your works to another;
    they tell of your mighty acts.
 They speak of the glorious splendour of your majesty
    and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
 They tell of the power of your awesome works
    and I will proclaim your great deeds.
