The sun shone on our Year 6 students for their two-day excursion to the National Capital, despite a forecast for wet weather. The students experienced a variety of educational programs focusing on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. They visited the National Gallery of Australia, Parliament House, Australian Institute of Sport, Electoral Education Centre and the Museum of Australian Democracy. There was also an opportunity for a little sight-seeing at Mount Ainslie.
Whilst at the Museum of Australian Democracy the students attended a Who’s the Boss tour, where they role-played key milestones of Australian parliamentary history and learnt about the parliamentary process. During the role-play activity our Year 6 students successfully passed the School Air Conditioning Bill in the House of Representatives.
It was a wonderful opportunity for students to experience the democratic process first-hand.
We would like to thank the Australian Government for their support of this excursion as part of the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program.
