SGCS’s Got Talent

Our 15th Evening of Fine Music featured big sounds and moments of serendipity from our talented cohort of Year 3 to Year 12 students. Ensemble groups interspersed with solo items, performances by the Junior School Choir and a few rocking numbers by our Year 12 musicians and SGCS Stage Band made for a memorable evening of entertainment.

As a K-12 School, the privilege of bearing witness and being involved in a child’s musical education from beginner to performer is one of life’s joys. The promise of our young performers in the string ensemble and woodwind ensemble was heartwarming. These ensembles bear testament to the benefits of being part of a music program where younger students work together with older students and vice versa.

The Junior School Choir, led by Mrs Nicole Finch, rendered two powerful performances with such enthusiasm it was impossible not to be moved.

A Musical excerpt from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was so spellbinding it created a ripple throughout the ensuing applause as people asked each other “when can we book tickets?”

And then our senior students took to the stage…….

The undeniable stage presence of our Year 12 musicians held the audience enthralled, and even when they experienced a little rock star moment with a missing guitarist, they handled the situation with such relaxed poise that you couldn’t help but smile and give a little applause for such good-natured camaraderie. With less than a week to go before their HSC music performance, no one was left in doubt that they will do well…..very well.

We thank our talented and gifted team of tutors, teachers and support staff for their vision and drive in bringing the Evening of Fine Music to fruition especially Mrs Nicole Finch, Head of Junior School, Mrs Carolyn Wang, Music Teacher and Mr John Collyer, Head of CAPA.

Congratulations to all the students and a big thank you to the parents for encouraging your children in their musical studies and performances.
