Play Before Work

Year 4 students enjoyed a day touring Hyde Park Barracks which enabled them to imagine what daily life as a convict would have been like. It was a wonderful experience and it enriched the students’ understanding of this period in Australia’s history.

The day started with the students playing in The Domain amongst the beautiful, tall trees. Afterwards, time was spent touring the historic Hyde Park Barracks. The students were able to explore the yard and old buildings, lie in the hammocks which the convicts slept in and examine artefacts in the museum.

The students were also given an opportunity to experience convict labour when they were put to work on a series of brick-laying challenges.

Life indeed can turn on a dime.
