Drawing Inspiration

Year 3 students have been learning about what it takes to create and publish a book as part of their studies in descriptive writing. Students from 3A and 3G worked collaboratively, playing with words and poetic devices to compose a rich description of an island scene. Using the wax-resist process they created illustrations with oil pastels and food dyes.

The resulting vibrant, descriptive masterpieces were published in hardcover, much to the delight of the students and their families.

The project was inspired by authors Alison Lester and Elizabeth Honey and their work with the children of Gununa. Their collaborative project resulted in the much loved children’s picture book ‘Our Island’.
